Super 8er Bahn, Prater, Vienna, Austria

When I first visited Prater, it was a rainy evening. I looked longingly at enormous, high-trill rides. Nearly all of them were closed on account of rain. In spite of that, I couldn’t hold my excitement and jumped around with joy like a monkey looking at the feast of coasters in front of me. A few functional rides saved me disappointment and the largest of them was none other than Super8er Bahn.

About the ride:

Super8er Bahn means ‘super fast, figure ‘8’ train’. True to its name, Super8er is a super fast train coaster. It is also the largest rollercoaster in the Wiener Prater located in Quadrant 4, right next to the Heritage Ferris wheel.

It was designed by Pinfari Italy as model FC80. It was the first non-looping coaster introduced by Pinfari. Prater is the first and only place it was installed in and has been operational in the park since 1997. This ride is 21 meters / 69 feet tall and the length is approximately 780 meters long.

Prater’s official website describes this ride: “In an intoxication of speed, this train is in track, bombing way down and way up at breakneck speed. Adrenaline junkies will definitely get their money worth during this nerve-wrecking roller coaster ride!” The website also warns it is meant for suitable for ‘Teenager, Courageous, Adults, Children’.

The train has 2 bogies, each with 2X2 seats.

Experience:

It looked like an old, worn-out coaster, but the charm came alive when I rode it. I assure you that the same thing would happen with you. Although it seemed harmless to look at, I screamed my way through. Even if it has no inversions, the ride was awesome. I wanted to ride it again and again, but it was time to go home. Be careful of the brake run right in the middle of the ride.

It is a must-do ride at Prater, because it is a jumbo coaster, and the only FC80 that was ever installed, yet I found it expensive at €5 per ride (2015).
